Civil Engineer/Project Manager
Job Summary: Huitt-Zollars, Inc has full-time opportunity for Water & Wastewater Project Manager position within the Public Works division of the firm. This full-time role requires a licensed Professional Engineer who has been specialized in municipal utility work. This position will work in close collaboration with a team dedicated to design and construction phase services for all aspects of municipal utility engineering including: potable water wells, tanks and storage, transmission and distribution, booster stations, system modeling and planning. Similarly, wastewater expertise is desired including treatment plants, advanced treatment, lift stations and force mains, and all aspects of municipal wastewater design.

- Conduct site visits and assist with documenting findings
- Attend, record, and distribute meeting minutes, and assist with general project correspondence

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE)

- Experience must include local public works design (city to county level) is required

- CAD Civil 3D is required

Plumbing (MEP) Engineer

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Draft and design plumbing and fire protection, piping and equipment for commercial developments including water systems, sanitary and storm systems, fire protection water systems, underground piping, sprays, and hydrants
- Support senior engineers/management in the design of plumbing systems and assist/lead projects.
- General design and production of plumbing, fire protection systems, fire and gas detection systems, fueling and process piping drawings from preliminary stages to final construction drawings
- Layout and size equipment, perform load calculations and investigate code requirements.
- Provide technical expertise during the design phase (schematic, design development) to coordinate spaces required for those systems.

Qualifications:

- Certified Plumbing Designer preferred but not required

- Knowledgeable in the design of domestic water, drainage, compressed air, vacauum and natural gas systems
- Understanding of fire protection design, building and NFPA Codes, and capable of conducting sprinkler system hydraulic calculations

Electrical Engineer
Job Summary: Huitt-Zollars has an exciting full-time opportunity for a Registered Professional Electrical Engineer with at least 5 years’ experience and to join our team. This role works with multi-disciplinary design teams in the completion of studies, development of plans and specifications for a broad range of projects. The incumbent performs design of site and facilities electrical power, communications, and interior/exterior lighting systems. Candidates must pass HZ security clearance review (criminal background check and Motor Vehicle Record check) and Federal Government base access requirements.
Location: Alexandria, VA
Responsibilities:
- Prepare design of electrical and interior/exterior lighting systems, design documents, plans and specifications.
- Guide others in the preparation of programming documents, schematic design, and design development and construction documents.
- Support multiple electrical engineering designs of new construction and renovation projects.
- Prepare designs, and handle design review and quality control.
- Prepare electrical construction specifications, budgets, schedules and work plans for projects.
- Researches building codes and standards to determine essential design requirements of the projects.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other HZ staff, utility representatives, contractors, and consultants and clients.
- Perform electrical system planning including electric distribution layouts, specifications of wiring systems, and analysis of loads.
- Calculate lighting illumination levels and designs lighting layouts for both interior and exterior lighting projects.
- Perform electrical studies including voltage drop/dip, short circuit and overcurrent coordination studies.
- Prepare various technical reports for engineering studies.
- Coordinate with other HZ disciplines, utility companies, consulting engineers, architects, and contractors to maximize efficiency and effectiveness in project design.
- Update Project Managers on work progress, and address potential project problems.
- Attend meetings, conferences, trainings to stay current on trade principles, practices and new developments.
- Review project construction submittals and shop drawings.

Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE).
- Registered Professional Engineer in Maryland, Virginia, or DC

- 5-10+ years of Electrical engineering design experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project

Job Summary: Huitt-Zollars has a great full-time opportunity for a Survey Technician at our Phoenix office This role will work with survey team in both field and office work, relating to boundary surveys, topographic surveys, as-built surveys, and construction stakeout, as well as deed research, plotting deeds, and preliminary boundary resolutions. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of survey processing, demonstrate dependability, be team oriented, and willingness to work in the field as needed.

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provide survey support for internal engineering, planning, and construction management services
- Ensure the safety of personnel and equipment.
- Searches legal records, survey records, and land titles to obtain information about property boundaries in areas to be surveyed
- Direct or conduct surveys to establish legal boundaries for properties, based on legal deeds and titles
- Prepare preparation of all data, charts, plots, maps, records, and documents related to surveys
- Verify accuracy of field survey data including measurements and calculations conducted on survey projects.
- Calculate, review and process results of field survey data including the shape, contour, location, elevation, and dimensions of land features and boundaries.
- Prepare metes and bounds descriptions of property boundary surveys for use in deeds, easements or other legal documents.
- Perform quality control checks of plats and drawings prepared by other technicians.
- Ensure schedules and productivity objectives set by a supervisor for preparation of survey plats and drawings are achieved.
- Review potential survey project RFP/bids and prepare cost proposals.
- Produce CAD drawings to include boundary surveys, topographic surveys, land title surveys, and ALTA/ACSM land title surveys.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED
- Minimum 3 years' survey tech experience using AutoCAD formats and preparing plats, easements and topographic surveys
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Carlson
- Solid listening, writing and verbal communications skills
- Knowledge of land surveying techniques, principals and standards
- Ability to review potential survey project RFP/bids and prepare cost proposals.
- Surveyor in Training (SIT) preferred but not required
- Capable of using Microsoft Office suite with excellent communication skills.
- Ethical and professional in manner, attitude and dress
- Ability to operate motorized equipment.

This full-time structural position is within our transportation group and also provides the opportunity to support other disciplines on an as needed basis.
