Registered Architect

Job Summary: Huitt-Zollars has a great full-time opportunity for a Texas Registered Architect for our Public Buildings Practice in our Houston office. This role assists the Vice President of Public Facilities through all project phases including business and client development, proposal writing and contract negotiations; performing facility condition assessments, needs assessments, blocking sessions, programming, and charrettes; preparing design and construction drawings, and providing construction administration for various public agency projects. The ideal candidate will have worked on buildings for cities, counties and local and state agencies.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Leads Architect group and work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to perform facility condition assessments, needs assessments, blocking sessions, programming, and charrettes; to prepare design and construction drawings, and assist in construction administration for a wide variety of public building types
• Plan, direct, and monitor all aspects of projects with a high degree of technical complexity.
• Supervise project team cooperatively with the project designer.
• Coordinate workload within project teams and work with other project directors to manage workload across the office.
• Ensure project development, documentation and its completion meets schedule and budget.
• Ensure compliance with contract terms and conditions.
• Review work and propose changes to design, and to comply with building codes and budget.
• Prepare plan of action to resolve project issues.
• Assist with monitor internal staffing needs and coordinate client staff and their internal customers, architects, engineers, contractors and vendors.
• Assist with writing proposals and participate in contract negotiations with clients and consultants.
• Prepare bids or assist with contractor selection process.
• Assist in preparing proposals and participating in new project presentations as requested.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Architecture required
• Registered Licensed Architect in Texas required.
• Minimum 9-13 years in profession as an Architect
• Demonstrated building construction technical experience
• Have worked in public buildings markets
• Ability to prioritize and deliver multiple projects with varying deadlines
• Proficient in REVIT and Adobe Suite a must and working knowledge with architectural tools such as SketchUp
• Strong programming, schematic design and design development experience
• Excellent verbal, written, and graphic communication skills
• Ability to lead and coordinate subconsultants as required
• Ability to interact with owners and user groups
• Strong organizational and leadership skills

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
• Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds on occasion
• The employee must be able to concentrate on details, work under deadline pressures, apply sound logic and judgment, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities
