Job Summary:   Huitt-Zollars' Houston Downtown office is seeking a Project Architect - Registered Architect for a full-time position. Huitt Zollars Institutional Practice is dedicated to shaping the future of education.  With a focus on innovative solutions and a client-centric approach, we collaborate closely with stakeholders to create environments that inspire learning, foster community engagement, and promote progress. Our expertise in institutional architecture spans decades and a diverse range of projects, from schools and universities to government buildings, reflecting our commitment to excellence and service to the public good.

 

As a Project Architect in our Education Studio, you will be responsible for managing multiple educational initiatives concurrently. Your role will involve leading project teams, collaborating with clients, and ensuring the successful execution of projects while adhering to design standards and client requirements.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Lead the execution of architectural projects for educational facilities from concept to completion: Take charge of overseeing the entire lifecycle of architectural projects, ensuring seamless execution and delivery within established timelines and budgets.
  • Coordinate with clients, consultants, and internal teams to develop project objectives: Collaborate closely with stakeholders to define project goals, scope, and deliverables, ensuring alignment with client expectations and project requirements.
  • Conduct site visits and assessments to monitor project progress and ensure compliance with design intent and regulatory standards: Regularly visit project sites to assess construction progress, address any issues or challenges, and ensure adherence to design specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance on architectural detailing, building codes, and design: Offer comprehensive technical support and guidance to project teams, leveraging expertise in architectural detailing, building codes, and design principles to drive project success.
  • Mentor junior staff members and foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment: Act as a mentor and resource for junior team members, providing guidance, feedback, and support to facilitate their professional growth and development.
  • Maintain clear and concise project documentation, including drawings, specifications, and correspondence: Ensure accurate and up-to-date documentation of project-related information, including drawings, specifications, contracts, and correspondence, to facilitate effective project management and communication.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, consultants, and internal stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met and expectations are exceeded: Establish and maintain open lines of communication with clients, consultants, and internal stakeholders, providing regular updates on project progress, addressing concerns, and managing expectations to ensure project success.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in architecture
  • Professional Licensure
  • Minimum 10 years of experience,
  • Advanced knowledge of design, trends, construction methodology, material application, and manufacturer-supplier appropriateness.
  • Advanced knowledge of architectural building systems.
  • Thorough understanding of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Integrated Project Delivery (IDP).
  • Advanced familiarity with sustainability principles, integrated design, and LEED guidelines.
  • Proficiency in Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) processes.
  • Comprehensive understanding of codes and the ability to research and incorporate into documents.
  • Advanced grasp of the Construction Administration Process.
  • Proficiency in Revit is essential.
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling software, Rhino, Grasshopper, Enscape.
  • Preferred proficiency in graphic software including Photoshop, Illustrator, SketchUp, and InDesign.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate within a team environment.
  • Proven capability to meet deadlines consistently.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, and the ability to lead teams and collaborate effectively.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds on occasion
  • The employee must be able to concentrate on details, work under deadline pressures, apply sound logic and judgment, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities
